Alexandra Park

Alexandra Park is located in South Harrow and provides 8.5 hectares of green space for residents in the surrounding area.

Bentley Priory

Bentley Priory is located in Stanmore, north of the Uxbridge Road and provides 66 hectares of countryside open space.  The site is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in particular for its meadow areas.  As well as the meadows the site includes extensive woodlands and 2 ponds.  In the summer cattle graze the meadows.  The site is a haven for bird life and a wide range of plant life.  There is no designated car parking but a car park in Warren Lane at Stanmore Common is within five minutes walk.

Adjoining the open space is a private Deer Park with a herd of approximately 24 Fallow Deer and the north is Bentley Priory RAF base from which the Battle of Britain was commanded during World War II.

Bernays Gardens

Bernays Garden is small walled garden of 0.3 hectares located at the end of the shopping centre at the junction of Old Church Lane and Church Road.  The garden provides a quiet area in which to sit and relax.

The ‘Cowshed' building, which is currently derelict, is scheduled to be renovated for use as artists' studios later this year. Dogs are not allowed.

Byron Recreation Ground

Byron Recreation Ground is located in Wealdstone with entrances from Christchurch Avenue, Belmont Road and Peel Road.  Car parking is available at the Leisure Centre in Christchurch Avenue. The park provides 17 hectares of open space.

Canons Park

Canons Park is an eighteen hectare fragment of eighteenth century parkland between Stanmore and Edgware, with entrances from Canons Drive, Whitchurch Lane, Howberry Road and Cheyneys Avenue.  The Council has recently been successful in obtaining a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to restore some of the historical features of the park, which was once part of the Duke of Chandos' estate and has links with Handel who was the organist at the adjoining St Lawrence's Church.  Works will be carried out over a 3-year period starting later this year.

The restoration project aims to carry out essential repairs and improvements to the historic buildings and landscapes. The plan includes:

  • repairs to the George V Memorial walled garden, the Temple, the Bothy and footpaths
  • reconfiguration and refurbishment of the main entrance at Whitchurch Lane with new footpath links
  • re-opening sight line from Whitchurch Lane to the historic house of Canons including avenue tree planting, tree removal, and cutting-back over-grown areas to allow them to be brought under management
  • refurbishment of formal gardens including new footpath link to Pleasure Ground
  • reintegration of allotment area
  • historic interpretation signage scheme 
  • development of a trainee scheme to support the park restoration
  • encouraging voluntary input and establishment of a Friends group

Centenary Park

Centenary Park is located in Stanmore with entrances from Culver Grove and Crowshott Avenue. The park provides 9.41 hectares of open space.

Chandos Recreation Ground is located in Edgware with entrances from Camrose Avenue, Merlins Crescent and Methuen Road. The park provides 9.41 hectares of open space.  There is limited car parking at the Camrose Avenue entrance.

Churchfields

Churchfields is the west slope of Harrow on the Hill. The area provides 5 hectares of open space some of which is maintained to encourage wildflowers.  Public footpaths cross it leading to St Mary's Church, West Street, Roxborough Park and Bessborough Road.

Grimsdyke Open Space

Grimsdyke Open Space is located in Harrow Weald in Old Redding.  Car parking is available opposite the entrance at the Viewpoint alongside the Case is Altered public house.

The open space was formerly part of the estate of W S Gilbert (Gilbert of Gilbert and Sullivan), who drowned in an ornamental lake on the estate.  The open space is 3.5 hectares and adjoins Harrow Weald Common it comprises mainly of woodland.

Gilbert's House is now the Grimsdyke Hotel and as well as leasing the house from the Council part of the grounds is also leased to the Hotel.

Grovefields

Grovefields is located in Lowlands Road, central Harrow, and is the north slope of Harrow on the Hill. The open space provides 2.5 hectares of open space.   A steel sculpture of a leaf is to be found in the north west corner of the open space to symbolise the greenness of Harrow.

Harrow Recreation Ground

Harrow Recreation Ground is located near to the centre of Harrow in Stanmore with entrances from Cunningham Park, Beresford Road, Roxborough Road, and Hindes Road.  Car parking is available at the Roxborough Road entrance. The park provides 10.93 hectares of open space.

Harrow Weald Common

Harrow Weald Common is located in Harrow Weald, Old Redding.  Car parking is available opposite the entrance at the Viewpoint alongside the Case is Altered public house.  The open space adjoins Grimsdyke Open Space and provides 19.30 hectares of woodland.

Harrow Weald Recreation Ground

Harrow Weald Recreation Ground has entrances in High Road, Boxtree Lane, Maricas Avenue and Weighton Road.  Car parking is available at the Boxtree Lane entrance.  The park provides 5.85 hectares of open space.

Headstone Manor Recreation Ground

Headstone Manor Recreation Ground is located in Headstone Lane with other entrances in Parkside Way and Pinner View.

Car parking is available at the Headstone Lane entrance and also the Pinner View entrance.  The park provides 23 hectares of recreation ground with football, cricket and tennis facilities.  The park also provides the ‘Showground' on which the annual Harrow Show is held each August Bank Holiday, as well other events during the summer.

Within the Park is Headstone Manor, a moated manor house dating back to the 15th century and currently undergoing renovations with the help of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant.  A tithe barn, small barn and granary building are open as a local museum.

Little Common Pinner

Little Common is located in Elm Park Road, Pinner, close to the shopping centre. There is also an entrance from the public footpath which links Waxwell Lane, via the Dell, to Elm Park Road.  The park provides 1.5 hectares of open space.

Lowlands Recreation Ground is located behind Harrow on the Hill Station in Lowlands Road.  The park provides almost 1 hectare of open space in the heart of Harrow.

Montesoles Playing Field

Montesoles Playing Field is located at Pinner Green at the junction of Pinner Hill Road and Uxbridge Road with entrances from James Bedford Close, Norman Crescent, Uxbridge Road and Montesoles Court. The park provides 8 hectares of open space.  There is car parking at the Montesoles Court entrance.

Montrose Walk

Montrose Walk is a linear park of 0.45 hectares along the Edgware Brook linking Gordon Avenue with Wolverton Road.

The open space provides a wooded walk away from the traffic.

Newton Ecology Park

Newton Ecology Park opened in 1990 on the site of a former Council Depot and provides 2.65 hectares of open space, designed and maintained to encourage wildlife.  The park has entrances in Alexandra Avenue and Rayners Lane.  There is a small car park at the Rayners Lane entrance and a small play area.

Pinner Memorial Park

Pinner Memorial Park is located close to the centre of Pinner with entrances in West End Lane, West End Avenue and Chapel Lane. The park provides 5.26 hectares for peaceful recreation. As well as a bowling green there is a pond with ducks and geese and a small aviary of bydgerigars .

Once part of the West House Estate and at one time the home to Lady Hamilton, the grounds provide an ornamental ‘Peace Garden', which provides a quiet place to sit.

Pinner Recreation Ground is located in West End Lane, Pinner.  There is also a public footpath with a link into the park between Starling Close and Hazeldene Drive.  The park provides 1.3 hectares of open space.

Pinner Village Gardens is located on the outskirts of Pinner with entrances from Rayners Lane, Compton Rise, Whittington Way and Hereford Gardens.  The park provides 6.58 hectares for informal recreation.  There are extensive shrub and azalea plantings and a small rose garden.

Roxbourne Park

Roxbourne Park is located between Rayners Lane and Eastcote with entrances from High Worple, Cannon Lane, Field End Road and Woodlands Avenue.  Car parking is available at the Cannon Lane entrance. The park provides 26.00 hectares of open space including football and cricket facilities and the adjoining Roxbourne Rough nature reserve, which is visited by wildlife: herons and green woodpeckers.  A miniature Railway is located at the Field End Road side and children can enjoy train rides on it during the summer on Sunday afternoons.

Roxeth Recreation Ground is located south of Northolt Road in South Harrow with entrances off Kingsley Road.  The park provides nearly 7 hectares of open space with football, bowls and cricket facilities.   The bowls green is home to Roxeth Bowling Club.

Saddlers Mead

Saddlers Mead is an open space of 4.17 hectares located in Hatch End with an entrance in Clonard Way.  The park is home to Parkfield Sports Club and provides football and cricket facilities.  At the north of the park is a section of the Grimsditch;  an ancient monument, dating back to Iron Age times, the purpose for which is not clear.  It may have served to mark a boundary or been defensive.

Shaftesbury Playing Field

Shaftesbury Playing Field is an open space of 4.28 hectares located in Hatch End with entrances in Grimsdyke Road and Colburn Avenue.  The park is home to Hatch End Cricket Club and Pinner and Grammarians Rugby Club.  There is car parking at the Clonard Way entrance and a children's play area.

Stanmore Common

Stanmore Common is located in Stanmore, north of the common, with car parking in Warren Lane.  The Common provides 48 hectares of woodland and heathland and is a Statutory Local Nature Reserve. Adjoining the common is Stanmore Little Common, which has 2 ponds, both created artificially.  They are thought to be former village ponds and one still contains a pump.

Stanmore Country Park is located in Stanmore, north of London Road with entrances off Kerry Avenue and Dennis Lane. The park provides 31 hectares of woodland and meadow.

Stanmore Recreation Ground is located north of Stanmore shopping centre with entrances from Stanmore Hill and Dennis Lane.  The park provides 2.63 hectares of open space with football and bowls facilities.  The bowls green is home to Stanmore Bowling Club.

Streamside Reservation

Streamside Reservation is a linear open space on the banks of Yeading Brook. Located on the southern side of Pinner there are entrances from Church Avenue, Village Way and Durley Avenue.
The open space provides more than 7 hectares of grassland and lightly wooded areas for informal recreation.

The Cedars

The Cedars is located at the junction of Uxbridge Road and Long Elmes, Harrow Weald.  It has entrances from Uxbridge Road, Chicheley Gardens and Chicheley  Road.

Once the site of a mansion owned by the Blackwell family - of Crosse and Blackwell fame. The park now provides 3 hectares of informal recreation space.

The Croft

The Crofts is 4.36 hectares of open space located between Eastcote and Pinner.  It has entrances from Cannonbury Avenue and Glover Road.  The park has a children's play area and changing accommodation, currently undergoing refurbishment.  Once completed, football pitches currently out of use, will be brought back into play.

The Viewpoint

The Viewpoint is located in Old Redding next to the Case is Altered public house.  The open space covers 1.62 hectares and is predominantly car parking.

There are magnificent views across the north of London and it is a starting point to two circular walks through countryside areas of Harrow: the Pinner Grimsdyke Walk and the Bentley Priory Circular Walk.  Leaflets on these are available at public libraries and the Civic Centre.

Opposite the Viewpoint is the entrance to Grimsdyke Open Space and the Grimsdyke Hotel, which was formerly the home of WS Gilbert of Gilbert & Sullivan.

Weald Village

Weald Village Open Space is located in Harrow Weald.  This is an open area of parkland accessible from The Cross Way and The Bye Way. The park provides 0.73 hectares of playing field for informal recreation.

West Harrow Recreation Ground provides 10.52 hectares of recreational space and has entrances from The Ridgeway and Wilson Gardens, where there is also a car park. 

The park is the home ground for a number of cricket teams and West Harrow Bowling Club.

Whitefriars Open Space

Whitefriars Open Space is located in Wealdstone with an entrance in Dalton Road, off Athelstone Road. The open space was previously the playing field for Whitefriars Secondary School (now the Teachers' Centre for Harrow).  The space provides a 0.66 hectares field for informal recreation.

Woodlands Open Space

Woodlands Open Space is located in North Harrow with entrances from Woodlands, North Harrow Car Park and Cambridge Road.  The park provides nearly 3 hectares of informal recreation space.  This includes an open grass area and a conservation area of woodland and scrub.

Yeading Walk

Yeading Walk is a linear open space alongside the Yeading Brook, which links Northumberland Road with Rayners Lane.  Entrances in Lincoln Road and The Ridgeway cross the brook mid way along the length of the park. 

The park covers nearly 3 hectares and provides a pleasant walk with lawns, mature trees and shrubberies.
